Avro - A Jet Fighter Game: (Windows - DirectX)
25th March, 1958. The country of Canada launches the first historic flight of the CF-105, Avro Arrow Jet Fighter, capable of speeds up to Mach 2.0. The advanced fighter program was controversially cancelled not even a year after its first flight. Or so the world thought.
You are a highly capable Royal Canadian Air Force pilot. One of her majesty's finest. Which is why you have been selected to take the skies in the this top secret Jet Fighter.
See READ ME file attached.
Controls:
Left/Right Arrows: Nose up, nose down.
Up/Down Arrows: Roll plane.
A: Increase Thrust.
Z: Decrease Thrust.
S: Toggle Smoke.
G: Raise/Lower Landing Gear.
Left CTRL: Toggle Weapons (Switch between Guns/Bombs/Missiles)
Spacebar: Fire Selected Weapon.
Enter: Toggle Fullscreen. (HAS SOME BUGS - BEST CHANCE OF SUCCESS SEEMS TO BE RIGHT AT BOOT UP MAIN SCREEN)
Escape: Quit.
Notes:
- Landing can be tricky at first. Think of a real plane when you're landing. Your goal is to reduce speed and angle your jet with the nose up, then just let her fall slowly down to the runway. Hold 'Z' once you are on the ground to engage the wheel brakes until the Jet comes to a complete stop.
- Landing during an incomplete mission will re-arm you with full missiles, bombs and bullets.
- Hitting 'S' during gameplay will toggle different levels of smoke. If you're having issues with framerate, turn off smoke using the S key. This option will save when you save your game, so find your favorite smoke level and press Save Game when you get back to the Upgrade Screen.
- Missiles Lock-On to the closest Air Target (Any plane) available. They can be fired at ground targets as well, but they will not be guided. Air Targets will take more damage from Missiles than from bombs, but it can be fun to be an ace pilot and do a bombing run on a plane.
- Ground Targets (Trucks etc) will take more damage from bombs, but lighter armored ground targets will still be a one-hit kill with missiles.
- Be careful proceeding to the next mission after winning one. Without enough upgrades to your plane the next mission may be impossible to pass. You may need to go back to an earlier mission to save some money.
- All Missions have up to 4 Star Ratings of Difficulty. The difficulty goes up with each Star as well as the potential for more cash. The difficulty will be displayed with a selectable star rating in the Dossier Screen.
- Upgrading your Jet Fighter's Iroquois engines (Speed) will aid you in getting the most money from missions. The 'Time Bonus' can be a lucrative bonus if you're quick enough, and it stacks multiple Time Bonus' on some missions, allowing you to make serious cash fast.
- Hitting 'A' again once your Jet's thrust is at maximum will activate your Avro's Afterburner. Tap 'Z' to disengage the Afterburner, and repress and hold it again to reduce thrust.

1. Fullscreen Toggle can sometimes crash the game. For best results, try hitting enter RIGHT AFTER you start the game.
2. If you are getting a D3D / DirectX error message about a missing .dll file when you try to start the game, run the "dxwebsetup.exe" file in the root directory to update your DirectX and it should run fine. I HIGHLY recommend you do so anyway, even if you are not getting the error message.

A Special Thank-You to Chili @ planetchili.net for his amazing tutorials that taught me to build the engine that Avro is built upon.

Airshow Music: Slowmotion - Bensound.com (Royalty Free Music).
If you know of any free to use music you feel would be a good fit, let me know!
Top Gun's Intro Anthem goes good for the airshow mission, but it is not free of course...
